MAJOR UPDATE TO USPS POLICY

The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) implemented new mail-dating procedures on Dec. 24. Under these procedures, letters and packages are postmarked with the date they are processed at a postal facility, rather than the date they are deposited in a mailbox. This change may affect whether time-sensitive mail is considered timely. According to USPS, the update is intended to reduce costs and streamline operations by consolidating mail processing into fewer facilities.

Florida law provides that the payment date for current property taxes is determined by the postmark date.

We strongly recommend the following to avoid late payments:

1. Pay online by clicking the link above. This option ensures immediate posting of your payment and carries no additional fee for current taxes.

2. If mailing a payment close to the deadline, take your envelope inside a post office and request a manual postmark at the counter. Be sure your check is signed and dated on or before the deadline.

3. Mail your payment well in advance—at least 10 calendar days before the deadline—to allow sufficient time for processing and postmarking.

4. If paying through your bank’s bill-pay service, be aware that your bank will mail a paper check on your behalf. Initiate the payment well in advance to ensure it is received and postmarked on time.
